The countdown has started!
ReadySetwork 2018 is just days away. Yes, the 13-week Entrepreneurship and Employability training programme for students in tertiary institutions in Lagos State is set to kick off its 3rd edition on Saturday July 14, 2018 in the 3 training centres namely LASU Ojo, LASPOTECH, Ikorodu and UNILAG, Akoka.
The programme, which is an initiative of the Lagos State Ministry of Education since its debut in 2016 has scaled up to accommodate more students through the campus classes and the RSW Online Academy. Till date, 12,500 students have been trained in the programme with many of them in various levels of career advancement.
This year, 25,000 students will be trained – 5,000 in the campus classes and 20,000 others through the RSW Online Academy. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh explaining the rationale behind the number disclosed that “the mandate by His Excellency Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is to equip every student in any tertiary institution in Lagos State with the skills, knowledge and attitude required to become value adding employees or job creators upon graduation. So we needed to scale up to accommodate more.”
As part of preparation towards the training proper, the RSW project team just concluded the Biometric Data Capturing Exercise for students who have been shortlisted to participate the programme. The shortlist Students are those who rested and partook of the 6-Moduled online course as precursor to the campus classes. The exercise would ensure that the data of every student is accurately documented and would enhance tracking of students’ activities during the training programme.
“Attendance and punctuality are very crucial factors in the programme and we have decided to utilize technology to achieve it. Through the tracking technology, we can know how many students attend each day and how many times a student has been absent or late. Even the students can track their status as reminders and notifications will be sent to them directly via SMS and emails.” Mr. Bank-Olemoh.
