The much anticipated RSW Internship Fair 2018 took place on Saturday 29, September 2018 at the Main auditorium of University of Lagos, Akoka. The turn out was huge with over 200 companies present to interview 5000 students from 8 Institution participating in ReadySetWork programme. It is indeed the biggest Internship Fair in Nigeria.
The students were smartly dresses in corporate wears to make good impression of themselves on representatives of organizations present to interview them.
Speaking at the fair, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh, encouraged the students to make the best of their interview sessions with the organizations present, giving it all they can. “The goal is to place 2000 ReadySetWork 3.0 students’ on 3 months paid internship .” He said.
Mr. Bank-Olemoh added that “The ultimate intention of the State Government is not the job placement per se but the knowledge and skills imparted on the graduates as well as the change in their mindsets and orientation. Lagos graduates should be the best and must be able to compete with their contemporaries anywhere in the world”.
Also speaking at the event, was the Vice Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, who described the RSW programme, particularly the Internship Fair as a unique programme by the State Government especially taking cognisance of the huge turnout of companies present to interact with students.
Prof. Ogundipe advised the students to see the RSW initiative as a platform to launch themselves to higher pedestal just as he called on the government to sustain the initiative, saying that the results of the RSW would become more evident within the next three to four years.
Activities for the day kicked off at about 10 am with the students taking turns to be interviewed by organizations present. Some of these students later shared their experiences about RSW and the internship fair especially their interaction with representatives of the various companies at the fair. They were optimistic about their fate after the programme.
Meanwhile, as the Internship Fair progressed, the RSW participants who have been shortlisted for the Business Pitch Competition continued their business pitch practice to perfect their game ahead of the Business Pitch Competition scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 13, 2018.
